    This course is designed as an introduction to basic Spanish language skills, including listening comprehension, reading speaking and writing. Student are introduced to cultures of the Spanish speaking countries and develop an understanding and sensitivity to diverse groups. Major grammar focus includes regular and irregular verbs in the present tense, adjective agreement, and discussion of family, school, time, weather, numbers and greetings. Meets MnTC goals 6 & 8. Prerequisites: NONE

    1. Comprehend Spanish pronunciation, Spanish grammatical concepts, comprehend Spanish sentence structure, and follow the conventions of the Spanish language.
    2. Explain the concepts of subject pronouns, gender, present tense, adjective agreement, ir+a+ infinitive
    3. Listen to, understand simple dialogs and short narrations, and speak clearly in Spanish about oneself, interests, studies, and daily activities.
    4. Use and apply grammatical concepts and verb tenses studied in class in oral and written work.
    5. Read and understand the content of basic written materials and write short dialogs, and in Spanish.
    6. Articulate knowledge of beliefs, behaviors, and cultural aspects of the Spanish-speaking world.
    7. Discuss cultural, arts and humanity aspects of contemporary Hispanic communities in the United States.
